JPEG is an image compression standard developed by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. Files commonly use either the .jpeg or .jpg extension. JPEG is widely used for photographs and normally uses lossy compression.
JPG and JPEG refer to the same image format. This converter decodes the image and encodes its pixels as JXL; it does not preserve the original JPEG bitstream.
JXL is the file extension for JPEG XL, an image format designed for efficient image compression. JPEG XL supports lossy and lossless compression as well as transparency, making it suitable for both photographs and graphics.
This JPEG to JXL converter creates still, 8-bit sRGB images. Choose high quality to balance detail and file size, or lossless to preserve the decoded pixels. File-size savings are not guaranteed, and JPEG XL support varies between browsers and image applications. Keep your original JPEG files for compatibility.
Convert JPEG photos to JPEG XL with adjustable quality. This tool decodes and re-encodes pixels; it does not perform reversible JPEG bitstream recompression.
Choose your JPEG files, select a quality setting, then convert and download. Each image must be no larger than 20 MB and 16 megapixels.
Create compressed JXL files from your images using adjustable quality or lossless mode. This converter accepts source formats such as JPG and PNG; it does not currently accept existing JXL files for recompression.
